How to use this map
Getting around
Drag to pan, scroll to zoom, or use the + and − buttons at the
bottom right. The Basemap section at the top of the legend switches between
the street Map and Satellite imagery.
The map opens on central Bengaluru. Above the zoom buttons, Default view returns
to that opening framing and Whole city zooms out to the full Greater Bengaluru
Authority boundary.
The latitude and longitude under your pointer are shown at the bottom left, above the
scale bar. When the pointer is off the map it shows the centre of the current view.
Layers
Each layer in the legend has a checkbox to show or hide it, and a colour key drawn in
that layer's own colour and line thickness, so the legend always matches the map.
The number beside a layer is how many features it holds.
Secondary drains and Corporations start switched off. There are 2,224
secondary drain segments and drawing them all slows the first paint.
Finding a water body or ward
Type at least two characters in the search box to match water body and ward names, then
click a result to fly to it. You can also click a ward or a water body directly on the
map — but the layer has to be switched on in the legend for a click to find it.
Clicking a drain shows its popup without changing what you have selected, because a
report covers a ward or a water body and a drain often runs through several wards.
Reset under the report button clears the current pick and empties the search box.
It leaves the map where it is and the layer switches as you set them.
Generating a report
Pick a ward or a water body, by search or by clicking it, then press
Generate report. A new window opens with the details, a map and tables of the
existing and lost water bodies in that ward. Use Print / Save as PDF in that
window to keep it.
The report draws its own map, so it does not matter what the screen
is showing when you press the button. It always frames the whole ward with every layer
switched on, and outlines the subject in blue.
A report about a water body frames that water body's ward too, so the map and the
tables beneath it describe the same place. The tables likewise always list every water
body recorded in the ward, whatever the layer switches say, so a report is never
missing part of the record.
The report map is drawn as vector artwork from the data itself, so it appears at once
and has no basemap photograph underneath. Neighbouring wards, the water bodies and the
drain
network give it its context, and it stays sharp however far you zoom into the PDF.
